Just happened to run on to this web sight. I am a 1962 grad of the Ogden School of Radio. One of my classmates was Richard Keil who ended up playing Jaws on the Bond movies. I think he also taught math at the school after we graduated. Hard work but had a good time with lots of memories. At age 70 I am still on the air daily doing a morning show. Love th business.

Great site - brought many memories.
Remember - VOLTAGE GOES NOWHERE! The simple logic Bill gave to the most in depth schematics augmented all the electronic circuitry design courses I subsequently took at SFSU/CSM. His teaching style was superb - building confidence in our own ability to figure out circuits so we would know the right answer before looking at any test question (knowing was better than guessing). I still have my graduation paperwork today (from 1969), and am amazed at all that was covered. Bill (and Tally) - two great legends in broadcasting!

Winter class 1969. I remember Bill sucking on those little black breath mints called Sen Sen and smoking. Eating a chili size at the little airport behind us. Once classes started I remember thinking I will never be able to keep up these hours and remember all this stuff. Mu Lu Hu Lu problems what the hell is that. Never in my career have I had to use this.
I ended up working at KSEM Moses Lake Washington, KPOR Quincy Wa. KMEL Wenatchee Wa and KWWW (KW3) Wenatchee. I have to thank Bill for all the support and "gruffness".

I went to Bill Ogden's school in April of 1970.

He was a character. If he caught anyone sleeping, which was hard to believe, it was not uncommon to see an eraser take flight.

On one occasion, with a local airport behind the school, a young flight school student had a hard time navigating over the roof. It was quite amusing when we all hit the floor... Bill never so much as flinched.

I attended ROES in September and October 1955 and passed the "test" for my first phone. Bill would give us a break while cramming by taking us on trips to China with his military experiences. A fellow student named Motley has constant cash flow problems and he would turn around to me, hold out his left arm and slide his wristwatch back and forth indicating it was pawn shop time. He always kept his watch though. I enjoyed my time in Burbank after which I worked in Ukiah, Santa Rosa, and Oakland at various radio stations for several years. I left broadcasting for other pursuits but I still look back and think to myself "man, that was fun". Bill, Tally and Thora were great people and I'm glad I crossed paths with them. Lyle Jones

I was at Ogden's ROES in June of 1964. Got the job done and ended up at KSEM in Moses Lake, Washington. Lost the picture of the group...if anyone has one...e-mail..thanks! Great time and great memories as I worked by rear off to get out...my wife was expecting our first child, and I needed a job. I'm semi-retired now, although I do a one hour talk show on three SE Idaho stations.I do it out of 590 KID Idaho Falls. Have great memories of Bill and the crew!

I graduated in June of 1970 and thanks to Bill's expert instruction, took my 1st Class Ticket in hand and started working immediately at K/men 129 in San Bernardino. From there, I went to KFXM 590 in 'Berdoo, then KEZY 1190 Anaheim, K-100 Los Angeles, Transtar (now Dial-Global) Radio Networks where I am now, and concurrently weekends at K-Earth 101 Los Angeles. I'll never be able to thank Bill Ogden enough for his easy formula that made getting that honored First Class License such an intense yet workable and successful experience. I'll always remember my time at OGDEN!!!

I was in the first class in the new Huntington Beach location. (summer 1966) Had some great times. Had to shower at the golf course up Warner the first couple of days. The plumbing wasn't fully functional in the new dorm. Things settled down really quickly and the class was full. Some of my classmates were: Bobby Ocean, Jumpin'George, and a cast of thousands.
I will never forget Bill's total EXPLOSION when I had to tell him that I DIDN'T pass my FCC Exam! I recited every question and answer that I had any doubt about. All three of them. Bill & I went to LA FCC office the next day he demanded that they recheck my test. They never admitted that they mad a mistake, but waived the 60 day hold on retaking the test. They gave me the same series, serial numbered test but substituted about 25 rules and regs questions. Bill told me after I passed the test the following week, that the exam was corrected with a wrong answer key.
While at ROES met my future wife cruising PCH in one of my classmates Corvette. I can remember driving down Beach Bl. just before dawn, hoping to get to sleep before the roosters started to crow. Just a couple of hours sleep and more MULU over HULU = MR. I still remember the statement but can't fathom what is solved.

I graduated from Ogden's school in the fall of 1969. Chain-smoking Bill was as ornery and colorful as ever, yelling at us that, "Voltage goes nowhere!!!" I don't remember much of what we learned back then, but taking the FCC test was pretty easy after enduring several months at Ogden's school. I'm no longer a broadcaster, but it is a time I will always remember.

Attended Bill's school in 1961....an unforgettable experience! Young, green, and not at-all sure of what I was getting in to. Graduated ahead of many in the class, but helped tutor at nights. Bill's math was astounding....I wish I had retained all of his methods today. I will always remember that experience, and be thankful that I did it. I went on to enjoy a 40+ year career in broadcast engineering. Thanks for this opportunity to pay tribute to a broadcast legend.
