Originally signing on the air as KMOD in 1950, the call letters and formats were changed in subsequent years to KASH, KZUN and then to KFIV. When KASH the format was mostly talk with financial news. The station was sold to Bob Fenton sometime in the early 70's who changed the call letter to KFIV. Before KASH became KFIV the station tried a country music for with the call sign of KZUN which failed. Today the station is owned by Clear Channel communications and has an all talk format.
