SINKING OF TITANIC
INFLUENCES "WIRELESS"

IN 1912, THE TITANIC HIT AN ICEBERG AND
SENT THE FIRST "S O S" SIGNAL WHICH WAS
RECEIVED BY A NEARBY SHIP THAT RESCUED
MANY OF THE SURVIVORS.  IT WAS LATER
LEARNED ANOTHER SHIP WAS CLOSER BUT
HAD ONLY ONE WIRELESS OPERATOR WHO
HAPPENED TO BE OFF DUTY.
THIS RESULTED IN THE RADIO ACT OF 1912
REQUIRING TWO OPERATORS ON ALL SHIPS.
