My interest in radio, began when I was 12 years old when my dad bought me my first radio. I liked listening to the music and the DJ's and at one time I considered broadcasting as for future occupation. I ended up in the culinary arts and cooking/baking profession instead. One of my hobbies has been listening to, and recording various, broadcast radio stations (AM & FM). I also collect air checks from other souces. I recorded all the air checks below with the exception of the West Coast AM and FM station ID's which I purchased on a cassette at a DX convention in 1989. I'm particularly interested in the various music formats presented through the years by area stations, a subject I will be writing about in the future.
Though I love all kinds of music, my all time favorite is classical music, I was thrilled in April 1985 when KHYV (970) in Modesto changed formats to classical music and was disappointed when it was replaced only a few years later. My personal list of the top six stations in the Modesto/Stockton markets include -
- KHYV-970 classical music & KWG-1230 Stockton Premiere oldies station in Central Valley
- KDJK-95.1 in Oakdale Album Oriented Rock (original format)
- KVFX-96.7 (The Fox) classic rock.
- KFIV-FM102.3 "Rock 102" Album Oriented Rock.
- KBEE-103.3 Beautiful music).
Hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane "Scanning the Radio Dial".
