H.P. "Jack" Stevenson, longtime Modesto radio announcer and engineer, died at Arbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center  January 21, 1999.  He was 78. 

Mr. Stevenson worked for McClatchy  Broadcasting for 45 years, originally at KWG in Stockton, later for KBEE in Modesto, as an announcer.  He was chief engineer at KBEE from 1969 to the mid-1970s.   Mr. Stevenson retired when Price Broadcasting bought the McClatchy station in 1982.  He lived briefly in Sonora, and divided his time between Modesto and Arizona. 

Veteran Modesto broadcaster Bob Mohr, who worked with Mr. Stevenson at KBEE, call him "a real character....everybody’s friend."  Co-worker Al Schneider, who moved from KBEE to KMJ in Fresno in 1969,  said Mr. Stevenson "really liked to talk, sometimes fantasizing and embellishing his stories a bit."  

Mr. Stevenson was born February 11, 1920 in Ennis, Texas.   He is survived by his wife, June Stevenson of Modesto; children, Lonnie Stevenson of Auburn And Janet Goff of Amarillo.   Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel were in charge of arrangements and the private service.
