(Words by Antonia Ridge and Music by Friedrich W. Moller)
"The Happy Wanderer" was the most popular tune of 1954 and spent 54 weeks on the best selling sheet music charts. The appeal of Frank Weir's version of this song was no doubt his lilting soprano saxophone solo interlude between verses. The success of the recording meant this combination of male voice choir, string orchestra, and his instrumental solos was to be Frank Weir's stock in trade formula for almost all of his recordings for the next few years.
Following in the footsteps of his mentor, Cal Purviance took over the Old Time Tunes program upon the death of Bill Bates in April of 1969 and maintained it through the 70's. Cal's theme song for the program was the Happy Wanderer by Frank Weir.
